Arthur Langan Haddon was born on 3 October 1895 in Goulburn. Arthur and Trevor shirt.  New South Wales, Australia, the son of Walter Haddon, an engine driver, and his wife, Mary Langan. After attending the Bourke Street Public School, he worked in Sydney from 1912 for the New South Wales Department of Immigration and Tourism. So Haddon was taken up an Anglican but attended at a Sydney Church of Christ culminating in a public occupation of his faith and baptism by soaking. In 1916, he entered the Bible College in Melbourne to train for the ministry. There, he won the award as the leading scholar in each of his theological years.

He was also an exhibitor and award winner in the Philosophy and Sociology classes at the University of Melbourne, graduating with a BA in 1923 and MA in 1925, both having first-class honors. He served in the parish ministry of Melbourne from 1920 to 1922 and was director of Christian education for the Churches of Christ in New South Wales from 1923 to 1926. Haddon was married in Melbourne on 15 May. December 1923 for Hilda Warn Petterd. So In 1926, the Dominion Conference of the Connected Churches of Christ in New Zealand resolved to establish a theological school in Dunedin. Haddon was appointed principal, a position he would hold from March 1927 until his death in 1961. The mission involved supporting the churches throughout New Zealand for the university.
